Skedsmo has approximately 50.000 inhabitants and covers a area of 77,1 km2. Industry and service are important for settling and employment in Skedsmo. Skedsmo muncipality lies in the middle of Oslo on one side and Gardermoen (main airport) on the other. Lillestrøm is the “capital” and the heart of the area called Romerike. Stretching from Østfold county in the south, to lake Mjøsa, Norway´s biggest lake, in the north, and from Oslo to the border with Sweden, Romerike offers you lots of beautiful places and experiences. Both summer and winter the friendly country side with woods and lakes and small communities is ideal for trekking or a nice drive. The main attractions are the Akershus Cultural Centre, Akershus County Museum, Lillestrøm Art Centre, the Motor Museum, Skedsmo Rural Museum and Skedsmo Church.
The most important motorways and main roads to and from the whole of Norway go through Akershus. Travelers by train, coach, car and boat to and from the area around Oslo have to pass through Akershus. There is a very good public transport system carrying large numbers of passengers between Akershus and the surrounding area daily, facilitating travel around the county. This provides an alternative to the big city, whether it´s for just an afternoon trip or a longer stay. You can get to all parts of Akershus within one hour from the centre of Oslo. The most modern airport in Europe lies in Akershus Oslo Airport.
LILLESTRØM
Lillestrøm´s history goes back to the days of the industrial revolution in Norway. In those days the town was known for the string of timber mills along the river Nitelva. Today Lillestrøm is a triving commercial city. It´s geographical position has always been a strength to Lillestrøm centrally placed to the new principal airport of Gardermoen.
But even today Lillestrøm appears as a cosy small town, centrally positioned at a junction giving easy access to all of eastern Norway. Soccer has always been great in Lillestrøm, and Lillestrøm Sports Klubb, LSK, is the football club that by far has stayed the longest in the Norwegian Top League. Just a short walk from the hotel, you find Åråsen. the home stadium of the team. Here you may experience a good home match by LSK together with the local supporters, the Canary Fans, named after the clubs yellow and black shirts.
You will find Nebbursvollen open-air Bath and Recreational area with several outdoor pools both for children and grown ups. Surrounding Nebbursvolden is a pleasant recreational area where you can see several species of birds or try your luck fishing in the river Nitelva. You may even spot the exclusive Fish eagle hovering in the sky, watching for prey.
Just 10 km south of Lillestrøm, lies the Nature Reservation of Northern Øyeren. Here Norway´s longest river pours into our forth greatest lake Øyeren. Forming a natural delta unique to this part of the world. Through the ages deposits from the spring flooding have created an ever changing landscape of islands and channels, ideal for wildlife and with more species of birds and fish than anywhere else in the Nordic countries. In the summer months a boat will take you through this fascinating landscape on a tour of the delta and the northern parts of the lake, where you may even spot beavers at work on the shore.

This museum features permanent collections of the artists Petar Tale and Kåre Tveter. Guided tours by appointment.
AKERSHUS CONTY MUSEUM
The museum is a service and advisory centre for museums in Akershus County and features changing thematic exhibitions. The exhibition “Journey to Akershus” shows how culture has changed as it has come into contact with other cultures and cultural impulses for over ten thousand years, from the last Ice age until the present time.
THE MOTOR MUSEUM
At the Automobile Museum you can view old vehicles from different areas of the past century. Cars and motorcycles are displayed in their contemporary settings. Here you will find among others a petrol station and repair shop from the 1930s. The exhibition are changed on a regular basis. The museum is located in a historical building previously occupied by Strømmen Verksted, and vehicles produced by this company are also on display. There´s a lot morre than just cars to see!
KJELLER
The nuclear reactor at Kjeller, opened on November 28, 1951 was the first reactor outside the two superpowers (the US, Soviet Union) and Canada, Great Britain, France. It was a joint project by the Dutch and Norwegian governments. The Netherlands supplied the uranium and Norway the heavy water.
Glomma, Norway’s longest river. At various points the river has created super beaches ideal for bathing and different forms of boating sports. Glomma is one of Norway’s best rivers for fishing, and in the currents by the bridge anglers can catch many kinds of fish including trout. The numerous lakes and rivers in the district are also worth trying. It is possible to enjoy the open-air life the whole year round in many different ways. Perch, pike and different variety of carp are the dominant species. They are more numerous in the slower water of the watercourse and in the estuaries where the tributaries join. Here perch and pike can reach a considerable size.
In parts of the Glom where the current is strongest, and downstream from power station dams, large trout can be found. The access to fishing along the Glomma varies. Cultivated land and undergrowth restrict access and fishing from land in many places. On both sides of the river there is a comprehensive road system. From the roads, and where the bridges cross the river, it is often possible to reach suitable fishing places. Good local knowledge is important, therefore talk to the locals! Fishing along the main watercourse is regulated to a small degree.
