Øygarden muncipality has approximately 5.000 inhabitants and covers a area of 66,5 km2. The administrative centre is Rong. Øygarden was created as a new municipality on January 1964 after the merger of Hjelme and parts of Herdla. The municipality consists of approximately 460 islands north of the municipality Fjell. On one of this islands Oøy (also called One) lies Kollsnes and the villages of Oen and Breivik. The main industry is based on fish and fish related businesses.

KOLLSNES

Kollsnes is a natural gas processing plant owned and operated by Statoil on the southern part of the island Oøy. It processes the natural gas from the gass fields Troll, Kvitebjørn and Visund with a capacity of 143 million standard cubic meters of natural gas per day.

BLOMØY

Blomøy is the next biggest island in the muncipality has approximately 500 inhabitants and covers a area of 9,1 km2. Blomøy lies north of the islands Rongøy and Ono and south of One. There is a bridgeconnection both north to One and south to Rongøy and Bergen. The islands highest peak is Blomøyknuten (74 meters).

RONGØY

Rongøy is an island and the village of Rong. Southwards, it is connected to Toftøy via the Rongesundet Bridge, which crosses the sound Rongesundet.

FISHING

There is good fjord and sea fishing in Nordhordland. Not far to the west there are a lot of good fishing spots in the sea, where you can catch large cod, catfish and other types of fish. The open sea, the sounds and the calm waters of the fjords offer many good places to fish both from a boat or from the shore; salmon, trout, mackerel, cod, saithe, ling, pollack, tusk, halibut, flounder, angler fish and catfish. Get hold of a good sea chart with information about depth and the sea bed, and an angling guide with information about where to find the various species of fish together these can provide you with a fine catch!

Some of the fjord and sea fishing spots in our region are Lurefjorden just north of Lurekalven, Lurosen, The Fensfjord, Austfjorden, Risasjøen. The Stone Age site at Straume by Fonstraum bridge. For thousands of years this has been one of the best fishing spots in Hordaland. Toska – there are many good fishing spots along the interesting road from Manger to Toska. The road which follows the curves of the coast, is an attraction in itself. Øyanevegen road from Austrheim out to Sævrøy, Krossøy and Baløy many good fishing spots along the way.
