Nærøy is a coastal township that offers ample fishing opportunities in rivers, the Nærøyfjord and the sea. Nærøy municipality has approximately 5.100 inhabitants and covers a area of 1.066,3 km2, lies in Nord Trøndelag. The principal industries are agriculture, seafarming, shipbuilding and industry. The municipal centre is Kolvereid. To the south lies the largest island, Abelvæer, which is linked to the mainland by a bridge. Through Nærøy muncipality runs the Coastal Route (Rv17).
THE SALSBRUKET AREA
For those who like something out of the ordinary, we can recommend this exciting road runs between Høylandet and Geisnes. Take the national road 776 and the ferry from Hofles to Geisnes, or follow the sign to Salsbruket from Høylandet. On the way, you will pass the waterfall of Skrøyvstadfossen, which has an impressive drop of 70 metres. The traditional costume for this region has been developed and manufactured in Nærøy. The Opløelva river in Salsbruket is famous for its good salmon fishing. From Setran Hyttegrend you will find a marked trail to the potwholes near Galtneset.
Other interesting sights include the windmill at Hundhammarfjellet, the largest series produced windmill in the world, and the heritage trail in Smines near Lund. A visit to Strandval pottery and the knitting workshop Nistec in Risvika. The Fuglevik gallery and the farm Varøen (cheese manufacturer) are also locaded at Varøya. If you want to do someting on your own, we recommend Nærøysund golf course at Ottersøy and diving (Nærøydykk) at Fikkan east of the small town Abelvær, is Ketilhaugen at Ramstad. The heritage trail in Smines near Lund and Remmastrauman near Bjørkneset, is also worth a visit.
KOLVEREID
The municipal centre is Kolvereid. Kolvereid plays a key role as the region’s trading and service centre. Nature has provided this area with ample agriculture and marine resources, and Kolvereid also has a competitive shipbuilding industry. Other towns and villages are Abelvær, Ottersøy, Foldereid and Salsbruket.
NÆRØY CHURCH
The church ruins on Nærøy Island is worth a visit. The oldest sections of the church date back to the 12th Century. During its thousand-year history Nærøya (Njord’s island) has been a religious, administrative and financial centre in Namdalen.
In pagan times the island had a temple dedicated to the Norse god Njord and there are ruins from one of Norway’s oldest stone churches. The church, which dates back to the 11th century, was one of the two main churches of the “Naumdølafylke” province. It is worth visiting the nature and heritage trail (a part of the local council’s history and culture project).
COASTAL ROUTE (KYSTRIKSVEIEN)
Explore the coastline of Norway and enjoy one of Norway´s finest tourist roads, or simply find your paradise for relaxation and peace of mind. The Costal Route (Kysriksveien or Rv17) is an exciting 650 km long stretch of road between Steinkjer in the south and Bodø in the north.
Apart from the traditional campsites, you will find self catering accommodation like Cabins, Fisherman cabins, or seahouses in most places along the route. In most of the places boatrental is available.

FISHING
The Opløelva river in Salsbruket is famous for its good salmon fishing.
GOLF
Nærøysund Golfclub is a golf course with 9 holes and a variation of difficulties. The course lies at Ottersøy, between Kolvereid og Rørvik.
