German Wine Route: Herxheim am Berg Germany

Herxheim am Berg is a village in Germany with 750 inhabitants that was first documentary mentioned in 774. The church of St. Jacob is believed to be built in the 8th century, containing mural paintings from the 12th and an altar with baptistery from the 14th century.

There are several remaining’s of the medieval town wall that are parts of the historic “Pfaffenhof” area. Herxheim is the highest point on the German Wine Route with 212 meters above sea level.
