Åmot Norway

Åmot is located in Rena, in the county of Hedmark in the eastern part of Norway. Rena is a small society with about 4.400 inhabitants and cover a area of 1.339,9 km2 including students and soldiers. The society has undergone great changes in the last decade. The traditional industry has lost many working places, but new opportunities have been facing the community. Rena is a important parts of the Norwegian army. Rena Camp is one of the most modern military camps in the world.

High-speed Internet access has been established in the centre of Rena through a fibre optic ring. Some small ICT firms have established offices in Rena. For the local authorities ICT is important and they hope they can help in establishing new ICT related jobs.

BIRKEBEINERRENNET

Birkebeinerrennet (The Birkebeiner race) is a long-distance cross-country ski marathon held annually in Norway. It is Norway´s race in the Worldloppet Ski Federation. The race starts at Rena and ends at Lillehammer, a distance of 54 km. The number of participants has been steadily increasing each year, and for the 2011 race, the limit was set at 16,000.

OSEN BYGDEMUSEUM

Museum for utility articles, ornamental objects,domestic utensil and tools from 18th century and onwards. The museum is open Saturdays and Sundays during summer. Appointments for visits outside openinghours can be arranged.

COMBAT GROUNDS

Combat grounds at Østra Æra. “Åmot og Omegn Forsvarsforening” (military defense association) has rebuilt the combat grounds from 1940 at Østre Æra. They have also built a museum with exhibition of equipment, objects and photos from World War II.

SØRLISTØA FLØTERMUSEUM

Timber-rafting museum established after the rafting was winded up in 1984. Buildings and constructions have been preserved with an authentic raftingmilieu. Exhibitions show treemodels with scenes from the life of rafting- and forestrywork. GLOMMA

Glomma, Norway´s longest river. At various points the river has created super beaches ideal for bathing and different forms of boating sports. Glomma is one of Norway’s best rivers for fishing, and in the currents by the bridge anglers can catch many kinds of fish including trout. The numerous lakes and rivers in the district are also worth trying.

Perch, pike and different variety of carp are the dominant species. They are more numerous in the slower water of the watercourse and in the estuaries where the tributaries join. Here perch and pike can reach a considerable size. In parts of the Glom where the current is strongest, and downstream from power station dams, large trout can be found. The access to fishing along the Glomma varies. Cultivated land and undergrowth restrict access and fishing from land in many places. On both sides of the river there is a comprehensive road system.

GOLF

Sorknes Golfclub is a golf course with 18 holes and is approved for international championships. Pinetrees, bunkers and water constitute the strategic obstacles. The golf course has in addition Drivingrange, 6-hole course, an area for putting and pitching. pro-shop and restaurant. Groups for competitions and training are especially welcome. Conditions for greenfeeplayers: Green Card. Sorknes Golf Course is situated at Rena, 30 km north of Elverum.
