The traditional market town of Thirsk is situated between two of Englands most famous national parks, to the west lies the Yorkshire Dales National Park and to the east the North York Moors National Park. This picturesque Yorkshire town is set in an ideal location for exploring the breathtaking countryside of Yorkshire and is a favourite place for walkers and cyclists.
The town has a stunning medieval market square which holds twice weekly markets on Mondays and Saturdays. Round the paved square there are narrow lanes and walkways with numerous specialist shops to explore.
Famous for its race course which attracts visitors from far and wide, and the acclaimed author James Herriot, who based his stories on the area, Thirsk offers a number of tourist attractions. James Herriot’s former surgery is now a tourist attraction named “The World of James Herriot”, while the Thirsk Museum and the spectacular 15th century Church of St Mary offer historical interest for visitors.
