Kendal is the largest town in the Southern Lake District in the UK and is easily reached from the M6 and the A65. Less than a mile from the National Park with its glorious scenery and wonderful walks and within easy reach of the coast and Yorkshire Dales this is a tourist heaven.
This historical town is packed with interest and although some of the oldest buildings are long gone there are still many of the original buildings to be found including castles and museums, ancient houses, hotels and inns nestled together amidst the wide range of architectural styles which have developed throughout the ages.
The town centre consists of narrow lanes and enclosed yards leading from the busy main street. Packed with interesting shops, restaurants and bars this is a fascinating place to spend the day meandering through the streets or just relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere. There are five shopping arcades within the town as well as a traditional market. This is the home of the famous Kendal Mint Cake a must have souvenir of any visit.
