Alsten UK

Alston is an historic little market town with amazing views over the Pennines. It stands on Alston Moor and attracts walkers to the Pennine Way and cyclists to the Coast to Coast cycle route.

An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty captivating visitors from all over the world, the surrounding countryside has an abundance of wildlife, flora and fauna and is perfect for a tranquil walk or just to sit, relax and take in the view.

The town itself rests in the South Tyne Valley and with its pretty cobbled streets and ancient buildings meandering from the town centre there is something interesting to see at every turn. Specialist shops and Art Galleries, cafes and tea rooms from which to sample local delicacies and rest tired feet.

In the town square stands the market cross, and between April and September a food and craft market is regularly held in the impressive neo-gothic Town Hall.

For railway enthusiasts there is the old station with its narrow gauge railway and visitors can also explore the restored lead mines or the nearby water wheel.
