Verkehrshaus: Interesting is not only the exhibition, but also the way in getting there. You may get there by Bus or by ship. But why not walk along the lake. It’ s a 1 hour enjoying walk along the lake shore.Panorama: This is something unique. You have a panoramic view of the situation, when the army of General Bourbaki received Asylum in the young state called Switzerland. 

You find the huge round painting in the renewed building near Lion monument and Glacier garden (“only a few thousand years ago” Luzern was under a glacier). The alpine museum nearby is worth a visit too. The hall of mirrors, entrance 20 m uphill, is fun not only for children. 

From here it’s a short walk to the Musegg wall.

Spreuerbruecke:   Everybody is probably crossing the world known wooden bridge called Kappell Bruecke. But not far away in walking distance down stream Reuss there is a second, smaller wooden bridge. Walk to Tribschenhorn: Another lovely walk along the lake shore, starting near KKL, the Railway station, or Tour bus parking. 

Walks in the old town: Perhaps the most interesting impression of Luzern you’ll get by walking up to the Musegg walls. Walking high up along the walls and returning along the river Reuss you’ll see many interesting things.

Musegg: From the Railway station you cross the river Reuss. On the hill in front of you is still the wall and a couple of towers of the old fortified enclosure. The tower on the right, the Schirmerturm, and the one to the far left, the Maennliturm, are usually accessible. You will recognize black birds with gray covered heads. This birds are relatives to the “Pilatus Dohlen” and they are breeding in the Musegg walls. The climbs are quite rewarding for the lookouts. The staircases are not conform to  nowadays standards, so take it easy. The climb up the long staircase to the Maennliturm will be rewarded by a free view, protected by not by a Maennli (little man) but by a tall iron knight. 

Near Spreuer bridge there is also a small hydro electric power plant. While today’s plant is only a few years old, there is prove, that already in the 8th century water power was used by the monastery. A few years ago in a referendum the voters of Luzern had decided to invest into the new building of the power plant, despite the fact that “ROI” would take some time. When you don’t see the plant it tells how good a job the engineers did…

SpreuerbrueckeNot only Kappell bridge is worth a visit. While Kappell bridge tells about history and wars, Spreuer bridge is philosophy about death and that everybody has to leave one time.”Totentanz” pictures (dancing of death) in the roof of Spreuerbruecke. Gloomy, but in a way worthwhile to think a bit.

Walk to Tribschenhorn

This easy walk (90 Minutes return) along the lake shore is really lovely. For some part the  pedestrian walk is over bridges crossing the wharf area of SGV (Schiffahrts Gesellschaft Vierwaldstaettersee). The best spot for getting a birds eye view of the Steam ship fleet! The walk way proceeds along public beaches and sports fields to the little hill of Tribschen Horn. Atop is the Wagner Museum.
