Verran muncipality in Norway has approximately 2.800 inhabitants and covers a area of 601,6 km2. It is part of the Innherred region. Verran is an eldorado for outdoor enthusiasts. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Malm. Other villages in Verran include Follafoss, Sela, Verrabotn, and Verrastranda. Verran encompasses the western coastline of the Beitstadfjord, an arm of the Trondheimsfjord. There are three large lakes in Verran: Ormsetvatnet lake, Selavatnet lake, and Holden lake. The river Follaelva runs through the municipality, emptying into the Trondheimsfjord at Follafoss.
Here you can fish in both the fjord and in mountain lakes. Holden, for example, is a good place to start a hike in Fosen Alps. Verran is an old industrial community with mining as its main industry. In Malm you will find northern Europe´s deepest mine shaft, a mining museum, a mine tower and other reminders of the community´s past.
MALM
Malm is located along the Trondheimsfjord, about a 32-kilometre drive west from the town of Steinkjer. The village of Malm has long traditions with mining of iron and sulphur made Malm an industrial centre of the county. The mining company Fosdalen Bergverk was owned by the state of Norway and some of the profit was spent to build a top modern primary school. The school of Malm was one of three pioneer schools in Norway, which started a 3-year long middle school (junior high school, grades 7-9) in the 1950s. New small industry has been established since the end of the mining period, where steel constructions for offshore vessels and bridges are made.
Malm Church is the main church of the Malm parish which is part of the Nord-Innherad deanery in the Diocese of Nidaros. The wooden church building was constructed in 1885 to seat about 350 people. The architect was Rasmus Overrein. The church was consecrated on 17 September 1886 by the Bishop Niels Laache.
FOLLAFOSS
Follafoss is located in the middle of the Beitstadfjorden, the inner-most arm of the Trondheimsfjord, about 12 kilometres southwest of the municipal center of Malm and about 15 kilometres northeast of Verrastranda. The Follaelva river empties into the Trondheimsfjord at Follafoss. The lakes Holden and Selavatnet both feed the river and also provide power through the Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk power company through hydroelectric power from the dams on the lakes. The village is also the location of Follafoss Church. The local paper mill, Södra Cell Folla, is the largest employer in the area.
SELA
Sela is located in the rural mountain area in the west-central part of Verran, very close to the municipal and county border with Åfjord in Sør-Trøndelag. The village sits along the shore of the lake Selavatnet, about 22 kilometres northwest of Follafoss and about 29 kilometres west of the municipal center of Malm. The village is the location of Sela Church. Sela Church is part of the Malm parish in the Nord-Innherad deanery in the Diocese of Nidaros. The church was built in 1997 to serve the western part of the Malm parish. The building was consecrated on 28 September 1997 by the Bishop Finn Wagle. This church was built near where the old Selahaugen church used to stand until the 1950s. In the forty years between church buildings, there were services held in the old school in Sela.
VERRABOTN
Verrabotn is located at end of the Trongsundet arm of the Trondheimsfjord. The village of Verrastranda lies about 20 kilometres to the northeast, the village of Trongsundet (in Mosvik) lies about 10 kilometres to the northeast, and the village of Årnset (in Rissa) lies about 40 kilometres to the southwest. Norwegian National Road 720 runs through the village, which formerly had a primary school. The village is the location of Fines Church.
Fines Church is part of the Verran parish in the Nord-Innherad deanery in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white wooden church was built in 1913 by architect O. Havnæs to serve the residents of the southwestern part of the municipality. The building seats about 136 people.
VERRASTRANDA
Verrastranda is located on the north shore of the Verrasundet arm of the Trondheimsfjord. The village of Verrabotn lies about 20 kilometres to the southwest and Follafoss lies about 15 kilometres to the northeast. Norwegian National Road 720 runs through the village. Verrastranda has a primary school.

NEW FOSSDALEN IRONWORKS
Northern Europe´s deepest iron ore mine, 1200 metres below sea level. The mine tower and other buildings, along with a scale model, tell the history of the mine.
JØSSING CABIN
Lies at Aursjømyrene. The War memorial Jøssinghytta is a monument over Yugoslavian prisoners-of-war who hid here and were helped to escape in 1943. Parking. Foot path.
