The most westerly valley system and district in Telemark, Fyresdal was also the most isolated for a long time in Norway. The municipality is sparsely populated with approximately 1.350 inhabitants an covers an area of 1.280,6 km2. The large and beautiful Fyresvatn lake, 26 km long and full of large and small islands framed by hills and mountains, is a dominant feature. About 400 people live in the main centre of Moland, where there are shops, a bank, doctor, hotel, camping site, etc.
FYRESDAL RURAL MUSEUM
Fyresdal Bygdemuseum is at the very heart of the town, beautifully situated between large, protected burial mounds. A fireproof museum building houses collections of fixtures and kitchen utensils. Old houses from different settlements in the district represent the architecture of local cottages, attics, storehouses, bathhou ses, cookhouses and mills.
SKEISTEINEN
Rune stones from the 12th century, at MoIandsmoen north of the centre of Fyresdal. Legend has it that people from the surrounding communities used to meet in order to fight and run races here. There were originally four such stones which formed a square, an arena for the combatants.
NIEVERSTOGA HANDICRAFTS OUTLET
Sales of local and regional handicraft products, demonstrating the best in local traditions. Courses in birch bark work, exhibitions.

TELEMARK FARM MUSEUM
Visit a medieval farm complete with cultivated land, forest, mountains and watercourse which reflect man’s contact with nature and farming through the ages.
OLD UPLAND FARM
Experience nature, culture, atmosphere and handicrafts at first hand at the Kvipt upland farm. Livestock, ceramics workshop with sales outlet. Newly restored house from the 18th/19th century. Farm museum, fishing, bathing, canoeing, traditional fare. Toddlers play room: open all year.
