Dønna Norway

Dønna muncipality in Norway has approximately 1.550 inhabitants and covers a area of 192,0 km2. The administrative center is Solfjellsjøen. The principal industries are agriculture, seafarming, fishing and public service. The region has a varied landscape with high mountains, forest-clad hills, large fields and a beautiful archipelago. Breivika, is called the Riviera of Helgeland!. Visit the fascinating and unique fertility exhibition in Glein, which features a stone phallus, Viking graves and Iron Age artefacts.

Follow the nature trail from Dønna church, or alternatively drive, up to the mountains and enjoy the wonderful views. Hire a bike or a boat to get the maximum enjoyment from the local nature and animal life. Interesting sights include Bjørnsøya coastal farm museum, Nordvika trading post and Dønnes farm. The Bjørnsmartnan market – once the biggest of its kind in northern Norway – has been revived and is now an important cultural event.

Dønnesfjellet road all the way to the top of the mountain “Dønnesfjellet” or a hike up the mountain “Dønnamannen”, provides a magnificent view of the mountain islands along the coast of Helgeland. Dønna has much to offer – proud cultural traditions and a fascinating history.

Dønnes church is a cultural treasure from the 12th century, housing Nonway’s largest mausoleum. Guided tours during the summer.
