Vestre Toten municipality in Norway has approximately 12.640 inhabitants and covers a area of 249,4 km2. The muncipality administrative center is Raufoss. A certain stagnation in the number of industrial companies is due primarily to cut-backs in the dairy and meat production industries.

INDUSTRIAL TOWNSHIP

The largest companies within the mechanical industry, Raufoss AS, Mustad and Øveraasen are solid companies with a great share of their production going overseas.

Raufoss produces everything from car parts to complicated equipment for the American aeronautics industry. Mustad is the world leader in fishing hooks and fishing equipment, and Øveraasen supplies snow-clearing equipment around the world, from China to the South Pole.

In the furniture industry, there are a number of companies with significant market shares in treated and untreated furniture in pine and spruce. The Krogenæs name (Talgø Group) is one example of high-quality furniture from the County of Oppland. Office furniture from Hov / Dokka is another. Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik is one of the country’s leading suppliers of furniture textiles, with a large share of their production exported.

With its fish farming, companies in the Valdres area have been able to specialise in supplying products such as fermented trout and smoked salmon and trout, to mention just a few – with Skarpsno Mat as the most important supplier to the Norwegian market. In Vest Oppland, an export group has recently been established for delivery of vegetables and strawberries to the German market, and sawmills are also working actively to boost exports to Germany.

HYDRO ALUMINIUM

The company was established to take advantage of the hydro-electric power plants in the respective villages to create aluminum plants. Hydro is the fourth largest integrated aluminium company world wide. In Norway Hydro has plants in Rjukan, Raufoss, Vennesla, Karmøy, Høyanger, Årdal, Sunndalsøra, Holmestrand and Magnor.

GOLF

Toten Golfclub is a golf course with 9 holes and a variation of difficulties. The course lies close to the village Raufoss, approximately 20 km south of Gjøvik City Center.
