Kicevo is a town in the western part of Macedonia, located in the Kicevo plain in the south-eastern slopes of Mount Bistra. Kicevo is seat of the Kicevo municipality.
According to the 2002 census, Kicevo had a population of 30,138. Kicevo lies at an altitude of 620-650 meters above the sea level. The E-65 internation road is passing right though Kicevo, which is situated between Ohrid (61 km) on the south and Gostivar (46 km) on the north. Skopje is just 112 km, of which 70 km are highway.
Kicevo is a important indistrial center in this part of Macedonia, due to the iron mine in Tajmiste, the coal mine and the thermo-electric power plant Oslomej. Kicevo is a mining town that started to develop very intensively after the 2nd World war.
The Kicevo area is famous for their burek (Macedonian type of pie). Kicevo was famous from the times of the National Liberation War and the struggle of the Macedonian people during the period of the Second World War.

- HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THE CLEANEST MONASTRY … Not far from Kicevo, is the Monastery dedicated to St. Bogorodica Precista (Immaculate Mother of God).
Holy Mother of God the Cleanest monastery near Kicevo is located on the slopes of the mountain Vrboj, at an altitude of 920 meters. The Holy Mother of God Precista church was built in the 19th century. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Holy Mother of God, the feast day of this monastery is Mala Bogorodica, (Birthday of the Virgin Mary on the 21st of September). The monastery, dedicated to the Annunciation and lodgings for devout monks, represents a medieval monastery that was known under the name Krninski monastery in the past. The Precista monastery, was built in 1316, and it was burned down by the Turks in 1558. Several centuries after in 1848, the Christian population of Kicevo, has managed to rebuilt this monastery church again. 6.27 km SSW from Kicevo center - KITINO KALE FORTRESS According to the earliest document this is a fortress from the ancient period, when Kicevo was known as Uskana. It was very important stronghold during the rule of the Byzantine emperor Vasilius 2nd, being a military-administrative and merchant center.
