Andros is the most northern located island in the Cyclades, only an hour and a half from the Piraeus harbour. Andros is the second largest island in the Cyclades group. It is a very beautiful and scenic island, and is home to some of the most traditional and picturesque villages. Unlike many of the other Cycladic Islands, Andros is perfect for a quiet and serene visit.
Andros is large island and a popular choice for weekending Greek mainlanders. The the main tourist beach resort is at Batsi with the island capital of Chora popular with visitors. A network of old footpaths makes Andros a walkers’ heaven but Andros beaches are both scarce and mediocre, given the island’s size.
The western area of Andros features beautiful, sandy beaches, and there are many rivers and springs found throughout the island. The capital of the island features Venetian and Cycladic architecture, narrow stone paved alleys, and brightly colored flowers, perfect for a peaceful and beautiful visit. You will find beautiful marble drinking fountains gushing water, and mossy springs. In the capital, Chora, which is located on the peninsula, you will find the ruins of a medieval castle, along with the Archaeological and the Modern Art Museums.
Batsi is the most popular resort on Andros, and features a reverent monastery with a beautiful and scenic view. Other villages located on Andros that hold interest are Gavrio, Paleopolis, Ormos Korthiou, Messaria, and Apikia.
