Røyken Norway

Røyken municipality in Norway has approximately 20.000 inhabitants and covers a area of 112,9 km2. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Midtbygda. The main population centers are the villages of Hyggen, Hallenskog, Nærsnes, Røyken, Slemmestad, Spikkestad, and Åros. Many people live in the northern part of Bødalen and its vicinities, which is a continuous residential area that continues throughout Asker and Bærum to Oslo.

The muncipality of Hurum and Røyken are the coastal district in the county of Buskerud. This long, varied coastline extending from the Oslofjord to the Drammensfjord, features smooth rocks and beaches, marshy land and villages, farmland, islets and skerries. A marked coastal trail brings you past such treasures, like the charming white village of Nærsnes, but also pleasant boating places with lodging facilities etc.

SLEMMESTAD

Slemmestad forms part of the Oslo Geological Region (Oslofeltet). This is an ancient, sunken part of the crust reaching in the south at sea level and extending north to Brumunddal. By subsidence, the Oslo field had preserved a comprehensive sequence of shale, limestone, siltstone and sandstone of the Cambrian period.

Until the establishment of cement factory in 1888, this was a pure farming village. The largest farms were the Lillelien, together with øvre and nedre Slemmestad. Slemmestad was built around the Aktieselskabet Christiania Portland Cementfabrik cement plant. Aktieselskabet Christiania Portland Cementfabrik, later Slemmestad sementfabrikk, was in operation from 1893 to 1989. The company was for many years the principal manufacturer of cement within Norway. The factory was rebuilt several times with new and more modern cement kilns. Cement production peaked in 1973 when it produced 1,082,677 tons.

Slemmestad Cement Museum is located in the cement factory´s former bag factory in Slemmestad. The museum was opened in 1991. It features photographs, artifacts, records and other documentation that shows 100 years of development of cement production and the great importance of the factory was Slemmestad and the people who lived there.

RAMTON PIER

Ramton Brygge is a family camping heaven and a modern first class camping site in Nærsnes close to the Oslofjorden. The camping site has a supermarked with fresh bread every day and also have a restaurant. They offer tennis and minigolf. During the summertime most of the guests enjoy sunbathing on the beautiful beach and fishing. The famous blue marked path along the coast goes through the camping.

LAHELLHOLMEN

Lahellholmen have a pleasant bathing place from smooth rocks. is situated in the Drammensfjord.

JERDAL

Jerdalsstranda swimming area with a long sandy beach is located on the east side of Hernestangen in Jerdalsbukta. Here the water is shallow and perfect for young children. Hernestangen is a great park-like outdoor area with large grassy and nice swimming area on the north side of the Drammensfjord. Nice 600 meter walking trail around the Hernestangen suitable for prams and wheelchairs.

Every year there is a music festival Fjord Festivalen in early August on Hernestangen. The festival was held for the first time in 2002 and has become an annual contribution to cultural activities in Røyken. Fjord Festivalen is a music festival for most people with a wide variety of music genres such as blues rock, jazz, dance bands, new music, rock, etc..

OSLOFJORDTUNNEL

Oslofjordtunnel or Oslo Fjord Tunnel is a subsea road tunnel under the Oslo Fjord that connects Hurum municipality in the county of Buskerud to Akershus county on eastern side of the fjord. The Oslofjordtunnel is one of the longest underwater tunnels of its kind in Northern Europe; it is 7.2 km long and reaches a depth of 134 metres below sea level, with a maximum gradient of 7%. The tunnel was opened by King Harald V on June 29, 2000, providing an alternative method of transport between the east and west side of the Oslo Fjord, replacing the former ferry line between Drøbak and Storsand.

The tunnel has one lane in each direction with an extra lane in the inclining direction on the slopes. The speed limit of 80 km/h is enforced by road rule enforcement cameras. The tunnel is partially toll financed with a toll plaza on the east of the tunnel.

SPIKKESTADBANEN

Spikkestadbanen is a 14 kilometre long railway line between Asker and Spikkestad. It was originally part of Drammenbanen between Oslo and Drammen which was built in 1872. In 1973 a new tunnel, Lieråsen Tunnel was built to shorten Drammensbanen, and much of the old line was closed down. The last train on the section between Spikkestad and Drammen ran June 2, 1973. However, the stretch between Asker and Spikkestad was kept as a branch line for local commuter traffic. The line was called Spikkestadlinjen until 2008.

FISHING

The long, varied coastline extending from the Oslofjorden to the Drammensfjord, features a lot of good fishingplaces. The Drammen river from is one of the best salmon rivers in the country, where more than 40 species of fish have been registered. The season for salmon fishing stretches from May to September / October.

GOLF

Kjekstad Golfclub a 18-hole course. Kjekstad Golfclub is a golfcourse of good standard. Kjekstad have a ProShop, Driving Range and a Start grid with waffles.
