Lier municipality is a nice place to live and to visit. Lier’s external face is that of its landscape fertile soil, forestry areas and characteristic ravine valleys, exciting animal and plantlife. 10% of the vegetable produce of Norway comes from Lier, and the municipality is very well known for its apples, strawberries, lettuce and cabbage. Lier municipality has approximately 21.750 inhabitants and covers a area of 302,0 km2 and lies in Buskerud. Lier offer a variety of areas for outdoor activities, both by the fjord, in the Lier valley and in the woods. Lierstranda a village located immediately east of Drammen city along the Drammesfjorden, it is a part of the urban area Drammen which stretches into Lier.

You have the possibility to experience quiet and beauty in Lier; activites related to fishing and swimming, walking in the wild or in the open fields during the summer as well as the winter. Visit for instance Gilhusodden, the Asdøl juvet Canyon, climb the Storstein Mountain or the Hørtekollen and take a rest at Engersand beach by Drammesfjorden. A popular festival with lots of fun can be enjoyed during the Lier Days in June, every second year.

SYLLING

Sylling is located near the southern end of Tyrifjorden. Sylling is known for agriculture, particularly the cultivation of fruit. Local farms have a long history of cultivation of strawberries and vegetables. The good soil is due to gravel after the last Ice Age including Sylling-moraine which dammed Holsfjorden, the southeastern arm as well as being the longest and largest of the branches of Tyrifjorden. Sylling Church (Sylling kirke) is a church constructed in a rectangular shape. There has been a church on the same site since the Middle Ages. The church has a cemetery and next to it is the old rectory. Sylling Church was built in 1852.

HUSEBY

Already before The Viking Age a farm was established at Huseby. It became the residence of great people and local leaders. The two big grave-mounds from early Viking Age are witnesses of this. Huseby farm was the home of Hallvard Vebjørnson (1020 – 1043), who tried to protect a poor girl from persecution and execution. He was made a saint after his death. Later St. Hallvard (born Hallvard Vebjørnsson) has been chosen as Oslo´s patron saint. Hallvard was buried at Huseby, and St. Hallvard´s fountain has been a popular pilgrim´s destination for centuries.

Husebyhaugene is the term for two burial mounds at Huseby farm. The farm can be traced back to 700 AD and is believed to have been the chief seat. The mounds are considered to be burial mounds, although they are not professionally excavated. They are both approx. 5 meters tall and 30 – 35 meters in diameter. It was made incorrect handling in the hills in 1849 and in 1940. A third pile was removed in 1823. In 1720 there should have been found a ship´s keel in this pile. Northern Husebyhaug is also called Hallvardshaugen. St. Hallvard road passes between the two hills. St. Hallvard road runs between Husebysletta and E18 at Kjellstad.

TRANBY

People have been living in “Green Lier” since the stone age, and you will find both a rural district’s castle and grave piles as a reminder of our oldest settlement. Now a residental area. Old mine ruins can be seen in many places, and the old marble works at Tranby stands an 8 metres high marble obelisk. St. Hallvard, the Patron Saint of Oslo, came from Lier.

APPLE FESTIVAL

An apple festival is arranged in Lier every autumn, and it is not accidental that Lier placed the apple-flower in its coat of arms. This is a traditional market with locally produced and self-produced products. We want to gather fruit and vegetable growers and others that offer traditional food, crafts and the like. The apple festival a varied program where apples and children are the focus.

TYRIFJORDEN

Tyrifjorden (Lake Tyri) is Norway´s fifth largest lake with an area of 137 km2. It is 295 meters deep at its deepest, and lies 63 meters above sea level. The lake´s primary source is the Begna river, which discharges into Tyrifjorden at Hønefoss where the river forms the Hønefossen waterfall. Its primary outlet is at Geithus near the lake´s southwest corner, where Tyrifjorden discharges into the Drammenselva river.

Utøya is an island in Tyrifjorden. The island is 10.6 hectares and situated 500 metres off the shore, where road E16 passes by, 38 km driving distance north-west of Oslo. Tyrifjorden is located in the county of Buskerud and borders the municipalities of Hole, Lier, Modum, and Ringerike. Tyrifjorden is a landlocked fjord. It consists of a main body, Storfjorden, along with the Holsfjorden, Nordfjorden and Steinsfjorden branches.

EGGE FARM

Egge Gård (Egge Farm) have been growing fruit since 1702, and all of the tradition and knowledge are now in the hands of the 11th generation, Marius Egge, who is continuing to produce premium products with fresh, handpicked fruits from the farm. We have designed a range of apple juices with illustrations inspired by the beautiful apple trees at the farm, and other handmade alcohol based products with apples, all with high quality and delicious taste.

LYNGÅSBANEN

The inhabitants of Lier are very active and constantly arrange conserts, shows and trips for all interested parties. See the last race is run on Lyngås Motor Court.

HORSE RIDING

We have a horse riding centre which offers jumpriding rallies etc.

FISHING

Fishing possibilities are good in Drammesfjorden.
