Oppegård is the smallest muncipality in Norway and have approximately 25.600 inhabitants and covers a area of 37,0 km2. Oppegård muncipality lies south of Oslo close to Bunnefjorden. High Tech Industry have been important for settling and employment in Oppegård. The main attractions are the Fredrikshald Royal Road, the ancient road over Grønliåsen hill, Roald Amundsen’s home “Uranienborg” and Ingierstrand Baths.

The most important motorways and main roads to and from the whole of Norway go through Akershus. Travelers by train, coach, car and boat to and from the area around Oslo have to pass through Akershus. There is a very good public transport system carrying large numbers of passengers between Akershus and the surrounding area daily, facilitating travel around the county. This provides an alternative to the big city, whether it’s for just an afternoon trip or a longer stay. You can get to all parts of Akershus within one hour from the centre of Oslo. The most modern airport in Europe lies in Akershus Oslo Airport.

URANIENBORG

Roald Amundsen’s home “Uranienborg” in the municipality of Oppegård is picturesquely situated among ancient trees with a view of the Bunnefjord in Svartskog. He moved there in 1908 and lived there until his death in 1928 (more under people). The house remains untouched, just as Roald Amundsen left it in 1928 when he set out on, what was to be, his last expedition to save the Italian General Nobile.

Amundsen disappeared in the icy wilderness himself during the rescue action. His home became a museum in 1935.

GOLF

Oppegård Golfclub is a golf course with 18 holes and a variation of difficulties. The course lies at Østre Greverud Farm, approximately 17 km from Oslo City Center.
