Fet muncipality has approximately 10.700 inhabitants and covers a area of 176,0 km2. Farming and forestry have always been important for settling and employment in Fet. The birthplace of Jan Stenerud. The most accurate field goal kicker in U.S. team history, Stenerud scored in a team-record 45 straight games while leading the Packers in points three years in a row from 1981 through 1983. Stenerud set an NFL record (since broken) in 1981 when he connected on 22 of 24 field goals. The main attractions are the Fet Church, Fetsund Timber Museum, Høgas Battery, Nordre Øyeren Nature Reserve and the M/S See Møve.

The most important motorways and main roads to and from the whole of Norway go through Akershus. Travelers by train, coach, car and boat to and from the area around Oslo have to pass through Akershus. There is a very good public transport system carrying large numbers of passengers between Akershus and the surrounding area daily, facilitating travel around the county. This provides an alternative to the big city, whether it’s for just an afternoon trip or a longer stay. You can get to all parts of Akershus within one hour from the centre of Oslo. The most modern airport in Europe lies in Akershus Oslo Airport.

FETSUND TIMBER FLOATING MUSEUM

Just where the river Glomma empties into Lake Øyeren, you find the small community of Fetsund. Here a museum commemorating the timber floating of the old days has been created. Documenting the way the people doing this dangerous and exotic work lived, the Fetsund Timber floating Museum is beautifully situated by the river Glomma.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, the floating of timber increased along the Glomma watercourse, with the same tempo as the demand for timber in Europe increased. The rivers functioned as transport routes and sorting booms were established along the rivers, which were used to collect and sort the timber. Fetsund Lenser was in operation until 1985. In 1990, it was opened as a museum and it is the only intact timber boom system along the Glomma.

The museum is a technical heritage gem for floating and sorting timber. Today Fetsund Lenser is a living museum in beautiful surroundings, with exhibitions on land and in water, blacksmiths, old boats, tool demonstrations and craftsmen. The museum also has a cafe where the speciality is a “gjedde-burger” (pike burger). The museum is open from May to September.

GLOMMA

Glomma, Norway’s longest river. At various points the river has created super beaches ideal for bathing and different forms of boating sports. Glomma is one of Norway’s best rivers for fishing, and in the currents by the bridge anglers can catch many kinds of fish including trout. The numerous lakes and rivers in the district are also worth trying. Perch, pike and different variety of carp are the dominant species. They are more numerous in the slower water of the watercourse and in the estuaries where the tributaries join. Here perch and pike can reach a considerable size. In parts of the Glom where the current is strongest, and downstream from power station dams, large trout can be found. The access to fishing along the Glomma varies. Cultivated land and undergrowth restrict access and fishing from land in many places. On both sides of the river there is a comprehensive road system. From the roads, and where the bridges cross the river, it is often possible to reach suitable fishing places. Good local knowledge is important, therefore talk to the locals! Fishing along the main watercourse is regulated to a small degree.
