Barrow-in-Furness

Situated on the Furness Peninsula in the shadow of the Lake District mountains, Barrow-in-Furness is an undiscovered gem. A Victorian dockland town with its tree lined streets and a wealth of fine buildings typified by its’ imposing red sandstone Town Hall.

Barrow is Cumbria’s largest town where major national stores mingle with local specialist shops in a spacious pedestrianised town centre. Barrow’s indoor Market has over 80 stalls and is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

For family entertainment there are the delights of Barrow Superbowl, Apollo Multiplex Cinema, Wacky Warehouse and Lazerzone.

There are several places of historical interest for visitors with Furness Abbey in the town and and Piel Castle, a 14th Century defensive stronghold on the remote Piel Island which can be reached by ferry on the tip of the Furness Peninsula. With three internationally renowned Nature Reserves, two on Walney and one at Sandscale Haws and with miles of beaches this is a haven for wildlife.
Barrows’ flagship attraction, The Dock Museum, is housed in a stunning Victorian dry dock. The displays look at the maritime, industrial and social history of the town, with multi-media interactive for all the family to enjoy.
