Visitors can park for two hours free of charge between 8am and 6pm seven days a week in the Market Place car park, the Shambles car park and Navigation Wharf (some restrictions apply on market days and during festivals).
The town is steeped in history and has there has been a settlement in the area since Roman times. Visitors to Malton can visit the remains of the Roman fort at ‘Orchard Fields’ and the Malton museum will further explain the history of the town. The town also boasts a Gilbertine priory for visitors to explore and Eden camp, a military themed museum, which is located just outside the town.

In more recent history Charles Dickens, perhaps the most recognised novelist in history, was a regular visitor to the town and penned the novel ‘A Christmas Carol’ while staying in the town. There are occasional Dickens-related festivals in the town and if you want to enjoy a bit of literary heritage Malton could be the ideal location for you.

If history and museums aren’t particularly your thing or you have a young family, fear not, Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo is located in the nearby village of Kirby Misperton. This is the largest amusement park in the region and is perfect for those with young children or the young at heart.

Malton is located in the middle of York and Pickering, while Whitby is also nearby. This makes it a near perfect location for exploring the diversity of the region and enjoying a wide variety of holiday activities. The city of York is full of history and museums as well as some great independent and chain retailers. York has many bars, restaurants and night-spots for visitors to enjoy alongside its ample tourist attractions.

Pickering offers brilliant access to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. This truly is one of the country’s most interesting National Park and offers historic monuments as well as exhilarating walks and spectacular scenery. The town itself offers plenty for visitors and is a perfect place to begin or end an adventure through one of Britain’s finest spots of natural beauty. The seaside resort of Whitby will add another dimension to your holiday in Yorkshire. The resort has some fine beaches and places to eat as well as some truly breath-taking views.

The market town of Malton might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of a holiday in Yorkshire but the town has much to offer. Whether it is history, adventure, scenery or just a different place to visit Malton will no doubt provide it.
