Particularly popular among tourists, especially those who come for a day trip from Corfu, is the Butrint National Park, which is located near Ksamil.
Here you can admire the ancient site of Butrint, a ruined city from ancient times, surrounded by centuries-old trees. Different cultures have passed through this place over time; the ancient Greeks and Romans, for example, but also the Ottomans. The traces of these cultures can still be found in Butrint. In the 1990s, the ruined city – one of Albania’s main attractions – was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List . We advise you to visit the city in the early afternoon, because the largest legions of tourists have already left the place, so that you can admire the highlights – such as the well-preserved amphitheatre – at your leisure.
You can travel there, for example, with the same bus that travels to Ksamil, because it runs once an hour between Saranda and Butrint. Entrance costs 700 Lek, just under €5, and is intended for the maintenance of the park.
